Home Security Burglar Alarm Systems
A home security system can be a wise investment. Homes that have security systems are about 3 times less likely to be burglarized than homes without alarm systems. A thief is an opportunist. Not only does a thief want to get the “big score” they also want to get in and out as quickly as possible with the least possibility of being detected. It just makes sense for a burglar to take the path of least resistance. If my house has an alarm and my next door neighbors house doesn’t which one do you think is going to get hit?
There are a lot of decisions to make before installing a security system. The cost of a home security system can range from reasonable to extremely expensive.
There are a lot of companies out there that will sell alarms, install alarms, and even offer monitoring services. Some companies will install a pretty good system for you for free if you sign a monitoring contract with them. There are also some do it yourself options, systems that you can buy at a big box store, take home, and install yourself. After you decide if you’re going to do it yourself or have a system installed professionally you need to think about the products you want and the parts of your house that will be covered. There are sensors that will go off when a door or window is opened. There are sensors that detect when glass has been broken. There are motion detectors. You’ll need to determine which products you need and it’s best to cover every possible entry point into your house. Of course the more products you buy the more it’s going to cost so you’ll have to consider your budget as well as the level of security you’re looking for.
If you are going to go with an alarm system I would recommend a monitoring service as well. Without a monitoring service an alarm is just a loud noise and your neighbors may or may not call the police. A monitoring system will call the police automatically giving a would be thief just a few minutes before the cops arrive. Monitoring services usually range in price from $25 to $40 per month although if you shop around you can even find monitoring for as low as $8.95 per month. Whatever the cost, it may be worth it to you for the added protection and piece of mind. Many monitoring services will have fire alarms and automatically call the fire department in the event of a house fire which gives you one more level of security whether you’re home or away.
