Without a monitoring service an alarm is just a loud noise and your neighbors may or may not call the police. Whatever the cost, it may be worth it to you for the added protection and piece of mind. Many monitoring services will have fire alarms and automatically call the fire department in the event of a house fire which gives you one more level of security whether you’re home or away.
