Home Security Tips When You're On Vacation
Your home is most vulnerable to burglary when it is vacant. When you go on vacation you certainly do not want to advertise the fact that no one is home. A little common sense goes a long way in protecting your home when you're not around. This page will give you some tips and some things you can do to make sure your home is secure while you are away.
One great way to help protect your house against break ins is to have a good relationship with your neighbors. A friendly neighbor will keep an eye on things for you while you're away. You can ask your neighbor to pick up your mail or newspapers while
you're gone. A stack of newspapers in the driveway is like a neon sign saying "nobody's home".
Home Security Vacation Tips:
When you're out of town you want your house to appear to be occupied. Another way to do this is to have some of your lights set on timers to turn on and off at certain times. You can set the alarm on your clock radio so that the radio comes on at least once a day for about an hour. Another way to make your home appear to be lived in if you're away for an extended period is to arrange for someone to mow your lawn. You could even have a trusted friend or relative house sit for you when you're away.
In addition to the tips above you'll want to make sure you do the things that seem obvious. Go around your house before you leave and make sure all of your doors and windows are locked. If you have an alarm system, be sure you arm it before you leave the house. You'd be surprised how many people actually have a burglar alarm system and don't turn it on. It has to be armed to do its job. I hope this tips help you think of some things before you leave for your next trip.
